The Recap

About the Film

A tour of the building where BU's College of Fine Arts trains its artists: the movement studios, the Booth Theatre, the painting facilities, and the halls between them. The brief was easy to say and hard to shoot. It had to feel like you were walking the building yourself, finding each room the way a student would.

How We Shot It

To make it read as one walk, we ran the Canon C300 Mark II on a DJI Ronin RS2 and planned every transition before we rolled, so the shots join with barely a visible cut. The hard part was scheduling. Every room had to be in real use when we filmed it, which means the movement studio had to be doing movement studio things. So we scheduled production days room by room.

A few shots took rigging. We dropped an Insta360 down the central stairwell on a custom drop rig, then stabilized and spun it in post. A DJI Mavic 3 carried us building to building across campus. Depending on the room we shot the C300 or a Panasonic EVA1, with a dedicated focus puller on a monitor the whole time.

My Role

I was director of photography, editor, and graphic designer, so every setup was shot knowing where it would cut, and the graphics came from the same hands. This one was close to home. I work in this building as Media Production Manager at BU's College of Fine Arts.
