Lauren Mahoney is a voice student at Boston University's College of Fine Arts who sings the national anthem at TD Garden, Fenway Park, and Boston's St. Patrick's Day Parade. This short film for BU follows her from the practice rooms on Commonwealth Avenue to those crowds.
I was director of photography and editor, and I shot it almost entirely alone. I didn’t know what the parade crowds would be like, so I brought a B4 lens. It paid off: at 400 to 500 millimeters I caught the mayor talking to Lauren from across the street, one of the b roll moments that made the film.
