David Guzmán &
The Leopoldo Quintet

BU Center for Latin American Studies·Live Performance Film·2024

About the Film

David Guzmán is a Colombian tenor and Assistant Professor of Voice at Boston University whose work centers on reviving Latin American art song. In September 2024, he performed with the Leopoldo Quintet, named for the great Argentine tango composer Leopoldo Federico, in a program of Argentine tango and Colombian Andean music for BU's Center for Latin American Studies.

This film captures that performance live: one night, one room, and music that rarely gets this kind of stage in Boston.

My Role

I directed and operated camera on this one. Live music is unforgiving in the best way: you read the room, anticipate the phrasing, and commit to your coverage in real time, because the performance only happens once. The goal was to film it with the same respect the musicians brought to the repertoire.
